在托福單字是基礎,但是前提是盡可能熟悉每個單字的所有涵義,因為托福最愛出題的內容就是"熟字僻義"的情況,如果在背誦單字的時候僅僅記住幾個常見的意思,就很容易被誤導或者產生詞意不順的情況。

11. feature (N.)

 

(A) a typical quality or an important part of something.

ex.  Wanton violence is now becoming a regular feature of urban life. 

 

(B) a part of a building or of an area of land.

ex.  The most striking feature of the house was a huge two-storey room running the entire width and height of the building.

 

(C)  one of the partsof someone's face that you notice when you look at them.

ex.  He has wonderful strong features.

 

(D) a special article in an ewspaper or magazine, or apart of a television or radiobroadcast, that deals with a particular subject

ex.   We are delighted to see the Sunday Times running a long feature on breast cancer.

 

12. feed…on:to increase because of something, or to use something to succeed or get advantages.

ex. The larvae of the majority feed on rotting wood.

 

13. shallow (Adj.) : having only a shortdistance from the top to the bottom.

ex.  The water is quite shallow for some distance. 

 

14. skeletons  (N.)

(A) the frame of bonessupporting a human or animalbody.

ex. We found an old sheep skeleton up on the cliffs.

 

(B) the most basic form or structure of something.

ex. The skeleton of my book is written/My book is in skeleton form - now I just have to add the details.

 

15. sediments (N.)sandstones, etc. that slowly form a layer of rock.

ex. Many organisms that die in the sea are soon buried by sediment. 

 

16. expose  (V.)

(A) to remove what is coveringsomething so that it can be seen.

ex.  He damaged his leg so badly in the accident that the bone was exposed.

 

(B)  to make public something bad or dishonest.

ex.  The review exposed widespread corruption in the police force.

 

17. vestigial (Adj.)

(A) being a small remaining part or amount

ex. Vestigial remains of these plays are now seen in the Christmas pantomime.

 

(B) used to describe something, especially a part of the body, that has not developedcompletely, or has stoppedbeing used and has almostdisappeared.
