托福閱讀的文章中,會出現很多長難句,所以除了主動詞,主句和子句也都要辨別清楚,才有辦法依據問題從文章中找出正確的答案來。
1.consist of:由…組成
ex. The atmosphere consist of more than 70% of nitrogen.
ex. Time just consists of the relation of before and after among events.
2. skull (N.):he bones of the head that surround the brain and give the head its shape.
ex. Her husband was later treated for a fractured skull
3. archaeocyte (N.):原始细胞
4. ancestor (N.):
(A) a plant, animal, or object that is related to one existing at a later point in time.
ex. The immediate ancestor of rock 'n' roll is rhythm-and-blues.
(B) a person related to you who lived a long time ago.
ex. He could trace his ancestors back seven hundred years.
5. provide (V.):to give someone something that they need.
ex. All meals are provided at no additional cost.
6. precious (Adj.) :of great value because of being rare, expensive, or important.
ex. Clean water is a precious commodity in many parts of the world.
7. jawbone:下頜骨
8. probably (Adv.) :used to mean that something is very likely.
ex. He probably didn't even notice.
9. detect (V.)
(A) to notice something that is partly hidden or not clear, or to discover something, especially using a specialmethod.
ex. Some sounds cannot be detected by the human ear.
(B) to discover something, usually using specialequipment.
ex. High levels of lead were detected in the atmosphere.
10. adaptation (N.):
(A) the process of changing to suit different conditions.
ex. Evolution occurs as a result of adaptation to new environments.
(B) a film, book, play, etc. that has been made from another film, book, play, etc.
ex. Last year he starred in the film adaptation of Bill Cronshaw's best-selling novel.
